Attending the Everest International Model United Nations (EIMUN) was a transformative experience that I will cherish forever. As a first-time delegate, I was filled with anticipation, excitement, and a healthy dose of nervousness. Here’s a glimpse into my journey at EIMUN. This five-day conference, starting from the 24th of June 2024 to the 28th of June 2024, changed my whole career path and turned a positive turning point in my life.

Arrival and Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was a grand affair, with delegates from various countries gathering under one roof. The energy in the hall was palpable as we listened to inspiring speeches from distinguished guests, including diplomats and UN representatives. The speeches from Youth Thinkers’ Society’s co-founders and organizing members were really motivating. It set the tone for the days ahead, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, diversity, and global understanding.

Committee Sessions

As a delegate representing SWEDEN, I was assigned to the UN WOMEN committee, where we discussed Evaluating the Effectiveness of Current Initiatives in Promoting Women’s Involvement in Peace and Security. The committee sessions were intense and intellectually stimulating. Each delegate came prepared with well-researched, ready to defend their country’s stance.

The first day was all about breaking the ice and understanding the different perspectives in the room. Everyone was stating their countries positions on the topic. I quickly realized the importance of active listening and diplomacy. As the delegate of Sweden I just had to listen everyone because Sweden itself is a feminist country and when it comes to women, Sweden ranks at top. We engaged in moderated and unmoderated caucuses, building alliances and making blocks.

The second day was a whirlwind of negotiations. I collaborated with delegates from various countries to merge and draft reports as UN WOMEN have only reports and not resolutions. Some delegates of Islamic countries like Iran and Afghanistan and delegate of China and Brazil mentioned very strong points that needs attention of United Nations. I learned to support others in this agenda. I told them about the strategies that they can adopt. The experience taught me the art of compromise and the significance of building consensus. It was thrilling to see our hard work taking shape as a committee report.

The final day was dedicated to drafting the final committee report. All the points discussed throughout the committee session where brought together. It was summarized and the problems with their solutions where drafted in it. I was proud to see that my suggestions were clearly reflected in the committee report. It was a moment of triumph and validation for all the effort we had put in. After the formal proceedings the dais members ended the GSL list with which our formal committee sessions came to an end. In the remaining time we get the privilege to have an MOE where we all gathered together, played the dare game, wrote the chits for everyone to do something. From the dance of the dais members to the song of our cameraman we all enjoyed the best committee sessions till date. Lastly we ended our day by writing comments on the pluck cards of every delegate as a memory that they will take back home.

Social Events and Networking

EIMUN wasn’t just about committee sessions. The conference also included various social events that provided opportunities to network and bond with fellow delegates. From Global Village to Escapade Night, from Heritage walk to informal gathering, these events allowed me to forge lasting friendships and connections. I not only exchanged cultures and knowledge but I also made lifetime friendships across the world. And how can I forget the organizing committee, what to say about them. No words to describe their love, care, and hard work for the comfort of each one of us. They were the sweetest humans I ever met in my whole life. Every single moment with the OC, with the delegates of different countries and with the UN representatives were the lifetime cherishable thing I brought back to India.

Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony was a bittersweet moment. It was a time to reflect on our achievements and the experiences we had shared. Awards were handed out to outstanding delegates, best strategist, best position paper, and I was humbled to receive an honorable mention for my contributions. It was more than enough for me to get the verbal mention as it was my life’s first ever MUN. The ceremony ended on a high note, with everyone looking forward to the next edition of EIMUN. I was completely filled with tears in my eyes crying on every shoulder that truly loved me. Although I haven’t received any trophy but the award of bonds and friendships was the greatest thing I was blessed with.
